Public Health Trial in the Field

All of my waking hours are dominated by our public health randomised control trial, which is currently in the field.

Public Health Trial

It’s been a while! I’ve been working long hours the past couple of months. These last few weeks, I’ve been up until 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. and working on the weekends. But it’s all been worth it because our randomised control trial to address COVID-19 behaviours is being launched on Monday!

Juggling Research

I’m currently managing three large research projects, plus our media. I’ve had two big weeks preparing for our public health trial, planning an ethics application, delivering a workshop, finalising results of a project that’s been scaled across the state, and managing our public communications under less than ideal timing.

Twitter Tips for Not-for-Profits

Not-for-profit organisations still have a tendency to be reticent to fully embrace social media. For some it’s due to lack of funds, time or resources, for others it’s lack of confidence about technology. As not-for-profits are sometimes staffed by volunteers, social media duties may be handed to junior staff who aren’t adequately trained, or it’s otherwise done ad hoc by personnel who are looking after social media in additional to their main job.

Equity Training

The last couple of weeks, I’ve been working on a couple of different projects. I’m scoping three research projects to increase compliance and awareness of cyber security. Another project seeks to improve behaviours on COVID-19 safety. The other big chunk of work is for our disability inclusion steering committee.

COVID-19, and Recruitment Feedback

Over my lunch break, I went to an online lecture by Professor Raina MacIntyre from the Kirby institute. She was talking about the latest international research on COVID-19. I spent most of the day working on recruitment for a program matching disabled students with policy work.

New Project on COVID-19

It’s been awhile. I’ve been on medical leave, just focusing on my health and wellbeing. I’ve been mostly resting. Slowly, at my own pace, I have also been tinkering away at some personal projects. Something I started before I went on leave is a collaboration with a colleage on the sociology of race.

Writing an Executive Email

I drafted the email it’s going up to our executives seeking endorsement of our latest randomised control trial. It’s one of many steps that we still need to take before we can proceed and it’ll probably be two months before we get secretary sign off (the final approval before we can begin preparing to go into the field).
