This past week Australia celebrated NAIDOC Week, a time to reflect on the culture, history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This year’s theme was Because of Her We Can, putting the spotlight on Indigenous women’s central role in overlapping areas, from family, to community organisations, to social justice.
Head to my LinkedIn to read about two events I attended.
One was a panel hosted at the Twitter offices in Sydney, the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation (pictured below). It focused on women’s leadership in academia, journalism and business.
The other was hosted at Tarnby, Australia’s oldest not-for-profit education centre. The panel discussed Indigenous women’s leadership in public service and the importance of kinship.
