People from low socio-economic status (SES) who read science news frequently score lower when confronted with new science facts than people from higher SES, or those from low SES who read science less frequently.

The findings suggest that blogs written in lay language may have better potential to educate mass audiences. Academic science publications tend to encourage non-experts to rely on pre-conceived notions and values.
