There is some backlash about so-called “hashtag” activism, which critiques people tweeting about a women’s safety while doing nothing as a woman is being attacked and asking for help. This criticism is short-sighted.
Twitter activists, such as Suey Park, do not stand idly by and do nothing – they lead important conversations about minorities and women’s rights, and this work comes with much online abuse and serious threats.
